Seriti’s Engineering Learnership 18.2 – New Vaal Colliery
If you’re a South African teen who’s finished high‑school and want a chance to learn a practical skill in mining, Seriti is looking for you. They’re opening a new engineering training program called the Engineering Learnership 18.2 at the New Vaal Colliery in Vereeniging. The course starts in 2026, and you’ll get paid while you study, finish a recognised trade qualification, and learn how to work safely in a mining environment.

The program is open to anyone who meets the basic requirements, but people living in the host communities will be given priority.
What the Learnership Gives You
The learnership is designed to turn you into a skilled artisan in one of several engineering trades. You’ll do classroom work to understand theory and hands‑on work at the colliery so you can finish with a formal qualification that employers respect.
After you finish, you’ll be ready to work in a fast‑moving mining setting, where safety, quality and good performance are a must.
Trades You Can Pick
You can choose one trade only and must tell us which one when you apply. The options are:
- Electrician
- Fitter
- Instrument Mechanician
- Rigger
Minimum School Marks
To qualify, you need to meet these school marks:
- Grade 12 Maths and Science – at least an E (40 %).
Note: Maths for “Mathematics Literacy” is not enough. - Two N2 trade‑related subjects or
- Four relevant trade subjects at N2 with a minimum of an E.
Also, you can’t have F grades in any of the required subjects.

Extra Things They Look For
- A score of 40 % or better in all required subjects.
- Be ready for psychometric tests.
- Willing to work shifts, standby and on call.
- Able to stay calm under pressure, think on your feet, and work with little supervision.
- Have or can get a valid Certificate of Fitness.
- No criminal record.
Getting a job in mining before or a K53 driver’s licence is a plus but not a must.
