What the apprenticeship is

Volkswagen Group Africa, through its Technical Learning Academy, offers full‑time technical apprenticeships. The training runs for 3 or 4 years, depending on the trade you choose.

Who can apply

You may submit an application if you belong to one of these groups:

  • Permanent hourly‑rated employees of VWSA.
  • Children of permanently employed VWSA staff.
  • Members of the Nelson Mandela Bay local community.

Available trades

You can select a trade in order of preference from the following list:

  • Electrical
  • Mechanical Fitter
  • Millwright
  • Automotive Motor Mechanic
  • Transportation Electrician
  • Mechatronics Technician

Minimum requirements

To be eligible you must have either:

  • Grade 12 / Technical Matric with a pass in Core Mathematics (or Technical Mathematics) and Physical Science (or Engineering Science). Mathematics Literacy is not acceptable.
  • At least N3 / NTC3 level with four subjects, including Core Mathematics and Physical Science.

Higher technical qualifications may also be considered if they match the advertised entry route.

Programme conditions

  • Overtime is not permitted during the apprenticeship unless you receive written authorisation.
  • You may not enrol in additional studies that require attendance during normal working hours, unless the study is part of the apprenticeship.

Documents you need to upload

  • Certified copy of your South African ID (no older than three months).
  • Certified copy of your highest school or college qualification (no older than three months).
  • A motivation letter explaining why you want to join the programme.
  • Contactable cellphone number and an alternative contact number.
  • Valid email address.
