What the opportunity is
Valterra Platinum invites unemployed South African youth to apply for the Engineering Learnership Programme 2026 / 2027 at its Rustenburg operations.
It combines structured off-the-job learning with workplace training. Successful completion leads to a nationally recognised Artisan qualification.

- Learnership Fitter
- Learnership Boilermaker
- Learnership Rigger
- Learnership Electrician
- Learnership Instrument Mechanician
- Learnership Millwright
Who can apply
You must have Matric or Technical Matric with:
- Mathematics – minimum 40% (Mathematical Literacy is not accepted)
- Physical Science – minimum 40%
- English – minimum 40%
Alternatively, you may have N2 or higher with the subjects required for your trade. An appropriate NCV Level 4 may also be accepted if every relevant subject was passed with at least 40%.
N2 trade subjects:
- Boilermaker: Plating and Structural Steelwork or Welders Theory, Plating Structural and Steelwork Drawings, Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Welder: Plating and Structural Steelwork/Welders Theory, Plating Structural and Steelwork Drawings, Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Millwright: Electrical Trade Theory, Electrotechnology or Electrotechnics; Fitting Trade Theory or Mechanotechnology; Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings; Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Electrician: Electrical Trade Theory, Electrotechnology or Electrotechnics; Industrial Electronics or Engineering Drawings; Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Mechanical Fitter: Fitting Trade Theory, Mechanotechnology or Mechanotechnics; Engineering Drawings/Draughting; Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Instrument Mechanician: Instrument Trade Theory or Industrial Instrument, Industrial Electronics, Mathematics and Engineering Science
- Rigger: Rigging Trade Theory, Engineering Drawings/Draughting, Mathematics and Engineering Science

Tips to improve your chances
Mining learnerships are competitive. Check your subject names and percentages before you apply. Maths Literacy will not meet the Matric route.
