Samancor Chrome Bursary Programme 2027 How to Apply

If you are in Matric or already at university, funding for 2027 can close sooner than you think. The Samancor Chrome Bursary Programme is open for selected Engineering, Geology and Mine Surveying degrees. Applications close on 02 October 2026. Late forms will not be accepted.

What the Samancor Chrome bursary is

Samancor Chrome invites current Matric learners and university students to apply for undergraduate funding for the 2027 academic year. The bursary is for study at recognised universities in South Africa.

It supports students who will enter first, second or third year in 2027. You must already be studying, or have provisional acceptance, at a recognised South African university.

Samancor Chrome is a South African mining and ferrochrome producer. It mines and beneficiates chrome ore and converts it into ferrochrome. Operations include Eastern Chrome Mines in the Steelpoort Valley and Western Chrome Mines in North West, plus several ferrochrome smelters.

Fields of study

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering, including Electronic Engineering
  • Geology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Mine Surveying
  • Mining Engineering

Who can apply

You must meet all of these minimum rules:

  • You are currently in Matric or you have already completed Matric.
  • You are studying or planning to study an undergraduate qualification in one approved field.
  • You will enter first, second or third year in 2027.
  • You study at, or have provisional acceptance from, a recognised university in South Africa.

If you miss any minimum rule, you may not be considered. Check the field list before you start the form.

What you can gain

The programme is meant to support students whose courses match skills used in mining and minerals. It is a chance to seek funding while you study a technical degree linked to that sector.

The advert does not promise a job after you graduate. Many students apply. Meeting the minimum rules does not mean you will get the bursary.

How to apply

Apply online only. Complete the official Samancor Chrome Bursary 2027 application and upload every required document before 02 October 2026.

Documents you must submit as clear copies:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Grade 10 academic results
  • Grade 11 academic results
  • Matric academic results
  • Matric certificate, if you have already finished Matric
  • Latest academic results and full academic record if you are already at university
  • Academic records on the institution’s letterhead
  • Proof of provisional university acceptance, where it applies
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Missing documents can disqualify you. Enquiries go to Khuphuka Training and Development Centre at Khuphuka@SamancorCr.com.

Tips that can improve your application

Many applicants struggle because they upload blurry results or forget Grade 10 and Grade 11 marks. Scan each page so names and symbols are easy to read. Use letterhead records if you are already at university.

Match your course title to the list above. Do not apply for a field that is not listed. Finish the online form in one sitting if you can, then check that every file attached.

What you should do next

Confirm that you will be in first, second or third year in 2027 and that your course is on the approved list. Gather certified ID, school results, university records or provisional acceptance, and your CV.

Submit the online application before 02 October 2026. If you have a question about the form, email Khuphuka@SamancorCr.com. A complete application, sent on time, is the most useful step you can take now.
