The KwaZulu‑Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (KZN DARD) is looking for fresh graduates who love farming and helping communities.
There are 75 new Assistant Agricultural Practitioner roles, each on a three‑year fixed‑term contract. This is a great chance to start a career in agriculture, work with farmers across the province, and support projects that improve food security.

Pay and Benefits
- Base salary: R193,359 per year
- Additional benefits: 37% of salary in lieu of standard service perks
Who Can Apply?
- South African graduates with a Diploma in Agriculture (NQF Level 6) or higher.
- You must be registered with SACNASP and hold a valid driver’s licence.
- No prior work experience is needed – the training is part of the job.

What You’ll Need to Know
- A solid grasp of agricultural extension methods.
- Good speaking and writing skills.
- Ability to write simple reports and give short talks to groups.
- Understand how people work together in a community.
- Willingness to travel to farms and visit projects.
Day‑to‑Day Work
As an Assistant Agricultural Practitioner you will:
- Give general farming advice to both internal staff and farmers.
- Help with food‑security projects, farm plans, and land development.
- Show farmers how to use resources sustainably and demonstrate new techniques.
- Visit farms, do surveys, and measure the impact of projects.
- Assist in creating farm business plans.
- Organise farmer days, information sessions, and training events.
- Support the launch and maintenance of agricultural projects and cooperatives.
- Offer ongoing training and support to farmers.
- Work with other agricultural groups to build partnerships.
- Keep accurate records of farmers and extension activities.
- Write monthly and quarterly reports for the department.
- Follow all public service rules and department policies.

Important Things to Remember
