Joburg Theatres Internship 2026 – Mktg/PR & Building – 13 July

Opportunity knocks right now for young South Africans eager to start a career in the arts and facilities sector – Joburg City Theatres is accepting applications for its Internship Programme 2026, and the deadline is fast approaching.

What the opportunity is

Joburg City Theatres is offering two paid internships at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, Johannesburg. The placements run for up to 24 months and provide a monthly stipend of R6 094. The two streams are:

  • Marketing and Public Relations (Reference M&PR/06/2026)
  • Building and Security (Reference BS/ST/06/2026)

Both roles are based at the Soweto Theatre and give you real‑world experience in a professional environment.

Who can apply

  • South African citizens aged 18–35
  • Residents of Johannesburg communities
  • Holders of a Grade 12/MatrIC or N3 certificate
  • For Marketing & PR: a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or Media Studies
  • For Building & Security: a National Diploma or degree in Engineering Studies or a related engineering qualification
  • Never completed the same internship before (unless it was in a different field)

What you will gain

Marketing and Public Relations Intern

  • Hands‑on experience with social‑media planning, content scheduling and analytics
  • Writing press releases, newsletters and media alerts
  • Supporting event promotion and stakeholder engagement
  • Learning to run basic marketing campaigns and PR activities
  • Developing proficiency in Microsoft Office, social platforms and, preferably, design software
  • Improving written and spoken English communication skills

Building and Security Intern

  • Exposure to building inspections, routine maintenance and facilities management
  • Understanding of safety compliance, OHS standards and contractor coordination
  • Practical tasks in plumbing, basic electrical systems and asset tracking
  • Experience in hygiene monitoring, energy and water conservation initiatives
  • Developing computer literacy with Microsoft Office and reporting tools
