Gold One New Shelf 1186 (Gedex) Operations is looking for bright students from the Ekurhuleni area to take advantage of its 2026 Bursary Programme. This isn’t a job opening – it’s a chance to get financial help so you can finish a university degree in fields that are key to the mining industry. If you live in Ekurhuleni and want to study something like mining engineering, geology, finance, or mechanical engineering, you can apply for a scholarship that will cover many of the costs that usually hold people back.
When Do You Need to Apply?
The last day to send in your application is 2 January 2026. After that date, we won’t accept any more forms, so be sure to get everything ready early.
Who Can Apply?
The bursary is open to two groups of people:
- External students – You don’t work for Gold One, but you might live in a mining community such as Springs, Benoni, Brakpan or Nigel, or nearby townships.
- Internal students – This includes permanent Gold One employees or a family member who is a direct dependent of an employee.
Each group will receive a set number of scholarships: 16 for external students and 15 for internal students. So in total, 31 students will be awarded this year.
Which Subjects Do We Cover?
Gold One focuses on subjects that help keep the mining business running smoothly. The bursaries cover these undergraduate subjects:
- Financial Studies
- Geological and Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Mining Engineering
- For internal applicants only: other related fields
If you’re planning to study one of these areas, you’ll have a strong chance of receiving support.
What Does the Bursary Pay For?
You’ll get money for:
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Textbooks that the university says you need
- Accommodation that the university arranges for full‑time students
The bursary does not pay for things like laptops, meals, data, transportation, short courses, or a monthly allowance. Keep that in mind when you prepare your budget.
Once you are awarded the bursary, you will sign an agreement with Gold One Gedex Operations. This is a normal part of the process and lets us keep track of the scholarship and make sure it goes to the right student.
