What the internship is
Three 24‑month Finance Intern positions are open in the Finance Department of Gert Sibande District Municipality, based in Ermelo, Mpumalanga. The role is a full‑time contract and will give you hands‑on experience in municipal accounting, budgeting, payroll, internal audit and supply‑chain processes.
Who can apply
To be eligible you must have completed one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management
- National Diploma in Accounting
- National Diploma in Financial Management
- N6 qualification in Financial Management
- Qualification in Accounting and Internal Auditing
- Any other finance‑related qualification accepted by the municipality
Preference is given to applicants who live in rural areas within the Gert Sibande District municipality. Make sure your residential details are correct and you can prove where you live if asked.
What you will gain
The internship will expose you to many finance functions, including:
- Processing debtor and creditor information
- Reconciliation of accounts and general‑ledger balances
- Assisting with payroll data capture and control
- Supporting the preparation of municipal budgets and the Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP)
- Helping compile annual financial statements and statutory returns
- Participating in internal‑audit activities and supply‑chain management
