What the internship programme is

The Gauteng Provincial Treasury is looking for 14 graduate interns to work in Johannesburg from 2026 to 2028. The programme lasts 24 months and pays an annual stipend of R98 097 (about R8 174 per month). Positions are open in ICT, communications, finance systems, HR, compliance and internal audit.

Who can apply

You must be a South African citizen with a recognised NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification that matches one of the internship fields listed below. Below is a quick guide to the required study areas.

  • ICT (4 places – REFS/055927): Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Development, Networking, etc.
  • Communications – Animation & Design (1 place – REFS/055929): National Diploma or 1‑2 year certificate in 3D animation, motion graphics, graphic design, UI/UX.
  • Communications – Photography & Videography (1 place – REFS/055930): National Diploma or 1‑2 year certificate in photography, videography or video editing.
  • Communications – Audio Engineering (1 place – REFS/055931): National Diploma or 1‑2 year certificate in audio engineering, sound production or related audiovisual studies.
  • Financial Automation Management System (1 place – REFS/055943): Diploma or degree in Finance, Financial Information Systems or IT.
  • Financial Information Management System (3 places – REFS/055932): BSc in Mathematical Statistics, BCom/BSc Business Administration, BSc Business Information Systems, or IT qualification.
  • Human Resource Management System (1 place – REFS/055934): Diploma or degree in HR Management, HR Development, Public Administration (HR focus) or Public Management (HR focus).
  • Compliance – Norms and Standards (1 place – REFS/055936): Degree in a relevant field such as Law, Public Administration, or Compliance studies.
  • Internal Audit Committees (1 place – REFS/055937): Degree in Business Administration, Office Administration, Public Administration or Public Management.

How to apply – step by step

  4. Read the full description to confirm your qualification matches.
  5. Download the new Z83 form from any public‑service department or the Department of Public Service and Administration website.
  6. Complete the Z83 form, sign and date it, and write the correct position title and reference number.
  7. Prepare a recent, detailed CV that includes:
    • All work or project experience with start‑ and end‑month/year.
    • Three referees (name, phone, email, relationship).
    • Relevant software, portfolios or media links where applicable.
  8. Upload the signed Z83 form and your CV on the portal.
  9. Double‑check that you have selected the correct reference number.
  10. Submit the application before 00:00 on 18 August 2026.
