South Africa’s Laboratory Internship Programme 2026 is now open, and you have a chance to start a career in a municipal lab before the June deadline.

What the opportunity is

Ehlanzeni District Municipality is offering a two‑year, paid laboratory internship in the Department of Community Services. The work will be based in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.

Positions available:

  • Microbiology Lab – 2 slots
  • Chemistry Lab – 3 slots

The internship pays R100 000 per year, all‑inclusive.

Who can apply (requirements/eligibility)

  • South African citizen, aged 18‑35
  • Unemployed graduate with a Grade 12 certificate
  • Relevant 3‑year National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
  • Previously disadvantaged individuals and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply
  • Willing to sign an internship agreement and undergo qualification, employment, criminal and credit checks

What you will gain

  • Practical experience in water testing and laboratory techniques
