City of Johannesburg Finance Internship 2026 – Apply by 28 August

Today is a good day to start your finance career. The City of Johannesburg Finance Internship Programme 2026 is open, and you can earn real work experience while you study.

What the internship offers

The City of Johannesburg’s Community Development Department needs finance interns. The role lasts up to 18 months and is based at 66 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

Who can apply

You must meet all of the following:

  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • A relevant qualification (BCom Accounting, National Diploma in Accounting, Internal Audit, Local Government Finance, Public Finance or N6 Financial Management).
  • Proof of enrollment if you are still studying.
  • Proof that you live in the City of Johannesburg.

Only residents of Johannesburg are considered. You must not have completed a similar internship before, unless that internship was unrelated to your current study.

What you will gain

The internship gives you hands‑on exposure to:

  • Asset and revenue management.
  • Financial reporting, accounting and budgeting.
  • Supply‑chain and capital management.
  • Good‑governance and clean‑audit practices.

You will develop research, analysis, problem‑solving, negotiation and Microsoft Office skills.

Remuneration

  • If you have finished a qualification (minimum 360 credits): R10,109.86 per month.
  • If you are still enrolled as a student: R4,951.88 per month.

Both amounts are basic salary only – no additional benefits.

How to apply (step‑by‑step)

  1. Gather the required documents: certified copies of your qualification(s), your ID, a current CV, and an enrollment confirmation letter (if you are still studying).
  2. Make sure all files are clear and legible.
  3. Open Google Chrome – the City recommends this browser.
  4. Visit the official application page: Apply for the Finance Internship.
  5. Complete the online form and upload your documents.
  6. Submit before the deadline.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Double‑check that you are a Johannesburg resident – this is non‑negotiable.
  • Tailor your CV to highlight finance, accounting or audit coursework.
  • Proofread your application for spelling and formatting errors.
  • Include a brief cover note that shows you understand the City’s Batho Pele principles and GRAP standards.
  • Submit early; waiting until the last day can cause technical issues.

Next steps

Apply online before Friday, 28 August 2026. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. For any questions, call 011 407 6553 or email LehlohonoloMoh@Joburg.org.za (email is for enquiries only). Good luck – this could be the start of your finance career.
