What the Learnership Looks Like
Participants split time between theory lessons at SIVOS and real‑world work on site. You’ll be guided by seasoned mentors, follow strict safety rules, and see how top mining operations run. At the end of the program, you’ll receive a recognised artisan certification.
Trades You Can Choose From
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto‑Electrics
- Fitter / Diesel Mechanic
- Boilermaker / Plater Welder
Minimum Requirements
- South African citizen with a valid ID
- Age 18–35
- Currently not employed
- Valid driver’s licence
- Proof of current address
- Fit to pass a medical fitness test and the Reasonable Fit Assessment (RFA)
Education Options
You can enter through one of two paths:
1. High‑school Route
- Finish Grade 12 with at least 50 % in Mathematics and 40 % in Physical Science
2. N2 Route
- Finish N2 with the subjects that match your chosen trade
Trade‑specific subjects needed at N2 level:
- Electrical / Millwright / Auto‑Electrics: N2 Mathematics & N2 Science
- Fitter / Diesel Mechanic: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science and N2 Engineering Drawing
- Boilermaker / Plater Welder: N2 Mathematics, N2 Science and N2 Structural Drawing
What You’ll Do
- Attend the SIVOS training classes
- Work on actual mining equipment under supervision
- Follow all safety rules and company procedures
- Keep work logs, finish assignments and prepare for trade tests
