The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Academy (ACRA) is looking for South African youth who are out of work and want a new career. They will offer a fully paid apprenticeship that teaches the skills needed to become a qualified air‑conditioning and refrigeration technician. This is a great chance to learn a trade, earn a certificate, and build a future in a field that keeps people cool and food safe.

Apprenticeship deadline and locations

  • Application deadline: 20 November 2025
  • Apprentices will train in one of three places:
    • Kempton Park, Gauteng
    • Pinetown, KwaZulu‑Natal
    • Kimberly, Northern Cape

What the apprenticeship is all about

ACRA is gathering a list of young people who want to learn how to install, maintain, and repair air‑conditioning and refrigeration systems. The program is funded by the HWSETA, so you won’t have to pay anything. After the training, you will receive a recognized trade qualification that can open doors to many jobs. The goal is to give unemployed youth a solid technical skill set that can lead to steady work.

Who can apply?

You need to meet these simple requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen.
  • You must be younger than 34.
  • You need to live close to one of the three training sites listed above.
  • You must have finished Grade 12.
  • You should have a Level 4 or higher qualification in Engineering Studies, including Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • You must be currently without a job.
  • Both male and female applicants are welcome.

  1. A short résumé (CV).
  2. A certified copy of your Grade 12 certificate.
  3. Certified copies of any Level 4 or higher qualifications.

When you email the files, put the province you want to study in the subject line. For example: “Application – Kempton Park” or “Application – Pinetown.”
