Transnet, one of the biggest rail and port operators in the country, has a 12‑month training package for people who have finished high school and a technical course. The programme blends classroom knowledge with real tasks at a busy logistics hub. You will be guided by experienced staff, take part in workshops, and see how the whole supply chain works.

What the Work Integrated Learner Programme Looks Like

This is not a full‑time job yet – it’s a trainee role that lets you learn while you earn a small stipend. You will report to the Senior Specialist for Youth Development and be part of a group of people who are learning the ropes together.

What You’ll Do and What You’ll Learn

Daily Tasks

  • Help with projects in your chosen department.
  • Carry out regular job duties while a supervisor watches.
  • Keep track of paperwork, fill out forms, and help with reports.

Training and Growth

  • Attend training sessions, workshops and get a mentor.
  • Watch experienced workers to see how they solve real problems.
  • Practice problem‑solving to sharpen your thinking.

Teamwork and Talking

  • Work with other teams inside the company, customers, and suppliers.
  • Send regular updates on your tasks and project status.
  • Serve as a point of contact for questions and support.

Data, Reports and Rules

  • Collect information, research and do data analysis.
  • Create reports and presentations using MS Office.
  • Follow all safety rules, company policies and ethical guidelines.

Who Can Apply? Minimum Requirements

All of these conditions must be met.

  • Finished high school (matric).
  • Have a technical qualification from S4 to S5.
  • Finished courses in one of these subjects: Electronics, Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physical Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Age 18 to 35.
  • Not under a bursary with another company.
  • Have a recent confirmation letter from your school.
  • Provide copies of your matric certificate, academic record, and ID.
