Sundays River Valley Finance Internship 2026 – Closing 19 Jun

Are you a young South African graduate ready to start your career in finance? The Sundays River Valley Municipality Finance Internship Programme 2026 closes soon on 19 June 2026 at 12:00. This is a real chance to gain solid work experience in local government right in the Eastern Cape.

What the opportunity is

Sundays River Valley Municipality, a Grade 2 municipality based in Nqweba, is offering five finance internships. The programme runs for 24 months. You will work in the Budget and Treasury Office and receive structured training under the Municipal Finance Management Act.

Who can apply

You need Matric or Grade 12 plus a relevant NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification in Accounting, Financial Management, Public Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or Auditing. You must be between 18 and 35 years old.

Preference goes to people who live permanently in the Sundays River Valley area. Applications from designated groups and people with disabilities are encouraged.

What you gain

This internship gives you practical experience in all areas of municipal finance. You will build on your tertiary studies and learn how real municipal offices work. In some cases, the programme can lead to credits or a qualification in Municipal Finance Management.

You will also earn a stipend of R100 000 per year while you learn.

How to apply

Follow these steps carefully:

  • Get the official application form from the Sundays River Valley Municipality website or at the Nqweba Administration Offices.
  • Prepare your documents: certified copy of your ID, certified copies of Matric and post-Matric qualifications, certified proof of residence from your Ward Councillor, and your CV.
  • Complete and sign the application form. Only forms issued by the municipality are accepted — no Z83, Nelson Mandela Bay, or Department of Labour forms.
  • Submit everything in person to the Human Resources Offices at 23 Middle Street, Nqweba, 6120 before the closing date.

No faxed or emailed applications will be considered.

Tips to improve your chances

Many applicants struggle with incomplete documents or late submissions. Make sure every certificate is certified and your proof of residence is correct. Be honest in your CV and application — false information leads to automatic disqualification.

Show that you can work independently and in a team. Good computer skills, especially Excel, and the ability to speak at least two of Afrikaans, English, or Xhosa will help. Prepare for the interview by bringing your original qualifications.

Next steps

If you meet the requirements, do not wait. Gather your documents today and submit on time. Council will only contact shortlisted candidates, so keep checking your details. This is a practical way to build your experience and open doors in public finance. Good luck — take the step and apply.
