What the NARYSEC Gauteng Youth Recruitment Programme offers

The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development runs this learnership to give unemployed youth in Gauteng a blend of leadership training, community service and SAQA‑accredited skills. The programme runs for 9 weeks of youth leadership development, followed by on‑the‑job training in one of five short‑skills tracks.

Who can apply – eligibility

  • South African citizen, aged 18‑35 (some tracks 18‑26)
  • Unemployed and not currently studying
  • Grade 12 certificate (SAPS‑certified copy)
  • Medically fit and no criminal record
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Willing to relocate to one of the listed municipalities

General requirements for all tracks

  • Valid South African ID (SAPS‑certified copy)
  • SARS tax number
  • Proof of residence in the targeted municipalities
  • Updated CV with two contactable references
  • All supporting documents must be certified and no older than 6 months

General Security Practices Learnership

  • Qualification: National Certificate – General Security Practices (NQF Level 3)
  • Requirements: 18‑26 years, Grade 12, medically fit, no criminal record, English proficiency, willing to relocate
  • Exit opportunity: Potential employment in the security industry

Laboratory Assistance Programme

  • Requirements: 18‑35 years, Grade 12, at least 40 % in Mathematics *or* 50 % in Mathematical Literacy, plus 40 % in Life Sciences and English
  • Exit opportunity: Entry‑level positions in laboratories or related fields

Tracker Installation Short Skills Programme

  • Requirements: 18‑35 years, Grade 12
  • Exit opportunity: Jobs installing vehicle tracking systems

Drone Pilot Short Skills Programme

  • Requirements: 18‑35 years, Grade 12, English Home Language, Mathematics, and a Computer subject; valid driver’s licence; able to drive a UDS bakkie; basic computer literacy
  • Exit opportunity: Work with drones in agriculture, mining, logistics or security

Domestic Appliance Repair Programme

  • Qualification: National Certificate – Domestic Appliance Repair (NQF Level 3)
  • Requirements: 18‑35 years, Grade 12, Mathematics and Physical Science (basic electrical knowledge a plus)
  • Exit opportunities: Formal employment or starting your own repair business
