The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is opening a three‑year apprenticeship programme for unemployed South African youth, and the deadline is fast approaching.
What the apprenticeship is
MISA will run a structured learnership that lasts three years. You will train to become a qualified artisan while working in a municipality. The placement locations are spread across several participating municipalities in South Africa.
Who can apply
The programme is aimed at unemployed young people who have completed a TVET or accredited training that allows entry into one of the listed trades.
Electrical Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Electrical 2026/01
- Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects, including trade theory.
- Technical trade theory programme quality‑assured by a SETA (equivalent to NQF Level 3).
- Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3.
- Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, a language and relevant theory.
- N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma directly related to the trade.
Plumbing Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Plumbing 2026/02
- N2 Engineering with trade theory.
- SET‑approved technical programme (NQF Level 3 equivalent).
- Engineering NC(V) Certificate.
- Technical Grade 11.
- N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma.
Bricklaying Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Bricklaying 2026/03
- N2 Engineering studies.
- SET‑approved technical programme (NQF Level 3).
- Engineering NC(V) Certificate.
- Technical Grade 11.
- N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma.
Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Motor Mechanic 2026/04
- N2 Engineering with relevant trade theory.
- Other recognised technical routes (Engineering NC(V), Technical Grade 11, N6 or National Technical Diploma).
Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship
Reference Number: Diesel Mechanic 2026/05
- Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics.
- Full N2 Engineering with Diesel/Motor Trade Theory.
- N3 Engineering with Diesel Mechanic Trade Theory.
