Joburg City Theatres is calling on unemployed graduates and students from Johannesburg communities to apply for its 2026 Internship Programme. The deadline is fast approaching – you have until 13 July 2026 to submit your application.
What the internship is
The programme offers practical, on‑the‑job training for up to 24 months at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, Johannesburg. You will receive a basic stipend of R6 094 per month. There are two vacancy areas:
- Marketing and Public Relations Intern (Client Services Department)
- Building and Security Intern (Soweto Theatre Facility Department)
Who can apply
To be eligible you must:
- Be a South African citizen, aged 18–35
- Live in a Johannesburg community
- Hold at least a Matric (Grade 12) or N3 certificate
- Have a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree relevant to the chosen field:
- Marketing, PR, Communications, Media Studies for the Marketing & PR role
- Engineering Studies or a related qualification for the Building & Security role
- Not have completed an internship in the same discipline before
- Submit all required documents before the closing date
What you will gain
Marketing and Public Relations Intern
You will learn to plan and schedule social media, create content, write press releases, newsletters and media statements, and support promotional campaigns for theatre productions. The role also covers media monitoring, stakeholder database management and basic event support.
Building and Security Intern
You will get hands‑on experience with building maintenance, inspections (plumbing, electrical, structural), safety compliance, contractor coordination, minor repairs, and facilities record‑keeping. The internship includes exposure to energy and water conservation initiatives and occupational health & safety practices.
