Hessequa Municipality IT Internship 2026 – Open for Fresh Graduates

The Hessequa Municipality is looking for fresh graduates who have just finished a Level‑7 degree in Information Technology to join them as an IT Intern for the year 2026.
This is a short‑term role that lasts four months. It will give you a chance to work in a real office, learn how a local government IT department operates, and build skills that will help you find a full‑time job later.

About the Internship

  • Position: IT Intern
  • Where: Hessequa Municipal Area, Western Cape, South Africa
  • Dates: 1 March 2026 – 30 June 2026
  • Type: Temporary, four‑month contract
  • Pay: R5,000 a month
  • Apply by: 6 February 2026

The internship is not a permanent job. It is a chance to try out a career in IT, see what the day‑to‑day work looks like, and decide if you want to stay in this field.

Who can Apply

  • You must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (NQF Level 7).
  • You should live inside the Hessequa region and can prove that you do.
  • Recent graduates are especially welcome.
  • The municipality values diversity and will give preference to candidates from historically disadvantaged backgrounds or who have disabilities, but this is one of several factors considered.

What the Internship Will Cover

During the four months you’ll:

  • Work on real projects that support the municipality’s digital services.
  • Learn about network maintenance, software troubleshooting, and data management.
  • Collaborate with experienced IT staff and help improve systems.
  • Attend training sessions that cover new technologies and best practices.

All candidates will go through reference checks, qualification verification, and a basic criminal background check. By submitting your application you agree to these checks.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the Hessequa Municipality website and download the application form.
    Download the application form here
  2. Fill out the form completely and attach the required documents (see below).
  3. Email your finished application to jaundre@hessequa.gov.za.
  4. Keep your email file under 4 MB; larger files won’t be accepted.

Documents you must send

  • A fully completed application form.
  • Your CV.
  • Certified copies of your degree certificate and South African ID.
  • Proof that you live in the Hessequa area.
  • Your bank details for salary payments.
  • Your SARS tax number.

Missing any of these documents or submitting after the deadline means your application will not be considered.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Trying to convince council members, committee members, or staff about your chances is a big no‑no. It will get you disqualified.
  • Only the shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
  • Arriving late for an interview will also lead to disqualification.
  • If you do not hear back within three months after the closing date, you can assume your application was not successful.
  • Successful candidates will sign a contract of employment, a disclosure of benefits and interests, and a performance agreement.

The municipality follows the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). By applying, you confirm that all information you give is true and up to date.
