Scholarship Types
- FirstRand Laurie Dippenaar Scholarships (2 awards) – Pick any field of study overseas.
- FirstRand Empowerment Foundation Scholarships (3 awards) – Focus on leadership and empowerment topics.
- FirstRand Oxford Scholarships – Three different options at the University of Oxford:
- MSc in African Studies (School of Global and Area Studies)
- Master of Public Policy (Blavatnik School of Government)
- MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and the Environment (Smith School)
- FirstRand IHE Delft Water Education Scholarship – MSc in Water and Sustainability at IHE Delft Institute.
- FirstRand IE School of Science and Technology Scholarship – Two routes at IE School:
- Master in Business Analytics and Big Data
- Master in Computer and Business Technology
- Mandela Scholarships supported by FirstRand Empowerment Foundation (2 awards) – Master’s degree at the University of Sussex.
Who Can Apply
To be considered, you must meet these clear rules:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be a top performer in your undergraduate program.
- Show that you’ve taken on leadership roles and helped your community.
- Be planning an international master’s program (you should not already be studying abroad or have an overseas degree).
- Agree to return to South Africa and work for at least five years after you finish.
How the Selection Works

Application Steps
- Apply to a University First – Pick the university and program you want, and submit your application there.
- Fill Out the Scholarship Form – Once you have an offer, go to the official website and complete the online application, attaching all required documents.
- Send Your Acceptance Letter – When the university gives you the official admission letter, email it to firstrandpgscholarship@firstrand.co.za no later than 7 April 2026.
- Shortlist and Interviews – A panel will review your file. About 45 applicants will be invited for an interview, held in Cape Town, Sandton, or online. Final interviews happen in Sandton in May 2026. The panel’s decision is final, so be ready to showcase your best self.
