Who can apply – eligibility and minimum qualifications

You may apply if you meet all of the following:

  • South African citizen, unemployed and aged 18‑35.
  • Grade 12 / Standard 10 with an E (or 40 %+) in English and Mathematics. Mathematical Literacy does not count.
  • Or NCV Level 4 where every subject is passed with an E (or 40 %+).
  • If you finished Grade 12 at a Technical High School you must also have passed Trade Theory, Science, and Technical Drawing with an E (or 40 %+).
  • A minimum N2 qualification covering the four trade subjects required for your chosen field.
  • For the Plater/Boilermaker track, one of the N2 subjects must be Structural Steel Drawings.
  • Proof that you live within a reasonable distance from Matla Coal.
