Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) 2026 Internship Positions

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) is opening a 24‑month internship program that is aimed at fresh graduates who are not currently working. The program will run from now until the end of 2025 and it takes place at the Western Cape Provincial Office in Bellville. If you are under 35, have a bachelor’s or a three‑year diploma, and have never had a paid job or internship in your chosen field, you might be a good fit.

What You’ll Do

You’ll get hands‑on experience in one of two areas: Finance or Human Resources. The internship will help you see how a government agency manages money, keeps records, and hires people. It also lets you learn about the day‑to‑day operations that keep elections running smoothly.

Finance Internship

You will:

  • Track payments from creditors and keep the accounts tidy.
  • Help with buying supplies and keeping track of contracts.
  • Maintain lists of assets and keep an eye on company vehicles.
  • Talk to suppliers and clients, and write minutes, reports, and emails.

You need at least a Grade 12 diploma, a bachelor’s or a three‑year diploma in Public Finance, Finance, Financial Management or Accounting. A postgraduate qualification can help you stand out, but it’s not mandatory.

Human Resources & Training Internship

  • Pay: R10 441.14 per month

You will:

  • Work with employee relations, health and wellbeing, and skill‑building.
  • Support recruitment and selection processes.
  • Handle conditions of service and training plans.
  • Learn about corporate services and electoral operations.

You also need a Grade 12 diploma, a bachelor’s or a three‑year diploma in Human Resource Management, Training & Development or Organisational Development. A postgraduate qualification is a bonus.

Who Can Apply?

  • Under 35 years old.
  • Unemployed at the time of application.
  • Never interned or worked in the same field before.
  • Ready to pass a basic risk assessment.
  • Good at speaking, working in a team and helping others.

People with a high political profile should not apply.
