Department of Transport WIL Programme 2026/2027 How to Apply

The Department of Transport Work Integrated Learning Programme for 2026 / 2027 is now open. Applications close on 09 October 2026. This is a practical 18-month placement in Pretoria, not a guess-and-wait advert.

Who can apply

You must have the matching N6 Certificate for the post you choose. Do not apply for a field that does not match your qualification.

If you have already completed an internship programme, you will be disqualified. Many applicants miss this rule. Read it before you send anything.

Appointments are subject to verification of educational qualifications, previous experience, citizenship, references and security vetting. If you apply for more than one WIL post, send a separate Z83 for each reference number.

What you can gain

You get 18 months of workplace experience at a national department. You also receive R6 131.00 per month. This can help you finish the practical part of an N6 qualification and learn how government offices work.

There are only 15 posts. Many TVET students apply. A place is not guaranteed. Completing WIL also does not promise a permanent job.

How to apply

Use the new Z83 application form. Add a comprehensive CV. Write the exact position and DOT/WIL/2026 reference number on the form.

Send your application by 09 October 2026 to:

  • Email: studentinternship@dot.gov.za
  • Postal address: Department of Transport, Private Bag X193, Pretoria, 0001
  • Hand delivery: Department of Transport, 159 Forum Building, Corner Struben and Bosman Street, Pretoria

Enquiries: Ms Maria Mabitsela on 012 309 3383 or Ms Stephlyn Groep on 012 309 3737.

Tips that can improve your application

Many applicants struggle with a blank or unsigned Z83. Complete every section. Use the correct reference number. One wrong number can send your form to the wrong pile.

Keep your CV short and honest. Show your N6 subjects and any workplace or college practical work. If you apply for more than one post, send a separate form for each one.

Check the email address before you click send. Late applications after 09 October 2026 are not accepted.

What you should do next

Match your N6 to one reference number. Fill in the new Z83. Attach your CV. Send it to studentinternship@dot.gov.za, or use the Pretoria postal or hand-delivery address, before 09 October 2026.

If you are unsure about a form or a reference number, call the enquiry numbers above. A complete, on-time application is the most useful step you can take now.
