City of Johannesburg CA Training Programme 2026 – Closing 20 July

If you want to start a career as a Chartered Accountant in the public sector, the City of Johannesburg Academy for Chartered Accountant Training Programme is accepting applications until 20 July 2026. This is a chance to earn while you train, and to work in the heart of Johannesburg.

What the opportunity is

The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is offering a three‑year training programme for trainee accountants. It is run by the Group Governance Department’s ACA Training Office and is designed to build financial‑management expertise for the public sector.

Who can apply (requirements & eligibility)

  • Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
  • Completed Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA) or Post‑Graduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) that is SAICA‑approved
  • The qualification must allow entry to the SAICA Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC)
  • 0–1 year of work experience
  • If you are already on a SAICA training contract, you must have passed the IAC and be in the first year of that contract
  • Preference is given to Johannesburg residents

Do not apply if you are still completing CTA, CTA Level 1, or the BCTA bridging course.

Next steps

After you submit, the City will only consider online applications. Shortlisted candidates may undergo credit checks, CV validation, employment verification, criminal record checks, and identity confirmation. The City follows its Employment Equity Policy, giving preference to previously disadvantaged groups and people with disabilities. If you do not hear back within six weeks of the closing date, you can assume your application was not successful.
