If you want to start a career as a Chartered Accountant in the public sector, the City of Johannesburg Academy for Chartered Accountant Training Programme is accepting applications until 20 July 2026. This is a chance to earn while you train, and to work in the heart of Johannesburg.
What the opportunity is
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality is offering a three‑year training programme for trainee accountants. It is run by the Group Governance Department’s ACA Training Office and is designed to build financial‑management expertise for the public sector.
Who can apply (requirements & eligibility)
- Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
- Completed Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA) or Post‑Graduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) that is SAICA‑approved
- The qualification must allow entry to the SAICA Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC)
- 0–1 year of work experience
- If you are already on a SAICA training contract, you must have passed the IAC and be in the first year of that contract
- Preference is given to Johannesburg residents
Do not apply if you are still completing CTA, CTA Level 1, or the BCTA bridging course.
