What the opportunity is

The Building Development Management Student Internship Programme 2026 is hosted by the Development Planning Department, Branch – Building Development Management. You will work at 100 Carr Street, Newtown Junction Mall, Nedbank Building, Johannesburg, Gauteng. The placement can last up to 18 months and closes on 16 October 2026.

Who can apply

  • Resident of the City of Johannesburg
  • Completed Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
  • Hold a relevant NQF Level 6 qualification (Diploma or National Diploma) in Archives Management, Records Management, or Archives and Records Management
  • Must not have taken part in any previous internship programme
  • No prior work experience required

What you gain

  • Practical exposure to filing, maintaining and retrieving building‑plan applications
  • Experience supporting the Records and Archives section and the Operations Manager
  • Development of communication, teamwork, and customer‑service skills
  • Monthly stipend:
    • If you have completed at least 360 credits: R10 109.86 per month
    • If you are still studying: R4 951.88 per month

    (basic salary – no additional benefits)

  • Exposure to Batho Pele principles, professional conduct and ethical workplace standards
