If you’re a recent graduate who likes numbers and wants a real job that teaches you how a city runs its money, this role could be your next step. The Central Karoo District Municipality in Beaufort West is looking for two people to join a two‑year internship in the Finance Department. You’ll get paid, learn how a municipal budget works, and help keep the city’s finances on track.
What the internship looks like

- Stipend – R100 000 per year, covers all expenses

This is a structured program. It follows the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Act 56 of 2003, which sets out how local governments should manage money.
What the program will give you
The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) is a national training scheme. It shows you the whole picture of municipal finance:
- Working with real budgets and spending plans
- Learning how money moves in a treasury office
- Building skills that will help you in any financial job
- Preparing you for a career that follows the MFMA rules
Who can apply?
You must match these basics:
- A three‑year degree or a national diploma in one of these fields:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance
- Risk Management
- Auditing
- Speak and write well in English and Afrikaans
- Know how to use Windows and Excel or other spreadsheet tools
- Hold a valid driver’s licence (bonus points if you have one)
- Be between 21 and 35 years old
If you live in the Central Karoo Region, bring proof of address – we prefer local talent. Also, if you haven’t done a similar internship before, you’ll stand out.
