Cape Agulhas Municipality – 3 Financial Internship Opportunities 2026

What’s the job?** Cape Agulhas Municipality is looking for three fresh graduates to join its Financial Internship Programme for 2026. The role is a two‑year paid internship that lets you work directly in municipal finance, learning about budgeting, auditing, risk management, and more. If you live in Bredasdorp or the surrounding area and have a degree in economics, accounting, finance, or a related field, this could be a great start to your career.

Why This Internship is Worth Your Time

  • Full‑time learning experience – You’ll see how a local government runs its money and keeps everything in check.
  • Real‑world projects – From tracking revenue to managing cash and supplies, you’ll handle tasks that matter to the community.
  • Good pay – Annual earnings range from R100 000 to R120 000, which is above average for new graduates in South Africa.
  • Support from the National Treasury – The program follows national guidelines and is fully funded, so you can focus on learning without worrying about budget cuts.
  • Pathway to future jobs – Experience in municipal finance is highly valued, and many interns move on to permanent positions after the two years.

When and Where

Start date – The internship begins in early 2026 and runs for 24 months.
Location – The office is in Bredasdorp, Western Cape.
Deadline – Submit your application by 15 December 2025. Applications received late will not be considered.

Who Should Apply?

To be eligible you need at least one of the following:

  • A three‑year Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Internal Auditing, or Risk Management.

Having studied courses like Financial Accounting, Auditing, Mercantile Law, or Local Government Management gives you an edge, but it’s not mandatory.

Applicants who speak at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape will be preferred. Good writing and speaking skills, along with computer know‑how, are also important.

We especially encourage residents of the Cape Agulhas area and people with disabilities to apply. The municipality follows the Employment Equity Act to ensure fair hiring for all.

What You’ll Do

Interns will get hands‑on exposure to many parts of municipal finance:

  • Managing the city’s finances in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act.
  • Tracking and controlling spending and revenue.
  • Handling cash flows and budgeting.
  • Working on supply‑chain processes that keep the city running smoothly.
  • Helping with internal controls, auditing, and risk checks.

Each task will let you see how decisions in finance impact everyday life for residents and businesses.

How to Apply

  1. Grab the form – Ask for the official Cape Agulhas Municipality application form from the council’s website or visit the office in Bredasdorp to pick one up.
  2. Get your documents ready – You’ll need a completed application form, a CV, and certified copies (not older than six months) of your qualifications, ID, and driver’s licence.
  3. Send it all together – Combine everything into one PDF and submit by one of these ways:

What to Expect After You Apply

  • Applications after 15 December 2025 will not be processed.
