Bergrivier Municipality is hiring Learner Fire Fighters for two towns in the Western Cape – Velddrif and Redelinghuys. What the Job Looks Like
As a Learner Fire Fighter you will:
- Help with fire and rescue missions while you learn from experienced staff.
- Provide basic first aid when a medical emergency happens.
- Teach people how to avoid fires and how to act if one starts.
- Keep fire trucks and tools in good working order.
- Keep the fire station clean and ready for use.
- Fill out simple paperwork, like keeping a log of equipment checks.
All duties are done under close supervision until you finish your training. The job is part of the Fire Brigade Services Act, so you’ll be part of a team that protects lives and property.
Who Can Apply?
You must meet every single requirement below. If you’re missing one, you can’t apply.
- Finished high school (Grade 12).
- Hold a Code C1 driving licence.
- Speak, read and write in at least two of the Western Cape’s official languages.
- Pass a physical test set by the Department and again each year.
- Pass a medical check (NFPA 1582) before you start, after you get the job, and as a baseline test.
- Have no phobias that could stop you from doing fire work – for example, you can’t be scared of heights, confined spaces, water, or dark places.
- Be in good physical and mental shape.
- Agree to work shifts, overtime and to travel to any fire station in the area as directed by the Chief Fire Officer.
- Have no criminal record.
- Finish the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and the NFPA 1582 medical test.
