Bergrivier Municipality is offering two graduate internships that start this November. What the internship programme offers
The municipality will take two graduates into its head office in Piketberg, Western Cape. The posts are part of the Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme set up by the National Treasury to build financial capacity in local government.
- Two separate internships: Financial Services and Internal Auditing & Risk Management.
- Contract length: 24 months with a possible one‑year extension.
- Stipend: R100 000 per annum (National Treasury guidelines).
- Expected start date: 1 November 2026 (or as soon as possible).
Who can apply – eligibility
Financial Services Internship
- Three‑year Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Internal Auditing or Risk Management.
- Computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to speak, read and write in at least two of the Western Cape official languages (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa).
- Strong communication, attention to detail, responsibility and basic knowledge of municipal accounting, budgeting, supply‑chain and reconciliation processes.
Internal Auditing & Risk Management Internship
- Three‑year Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma with a focus on Internal Auditing and/or Risk Management.
- Same language, computer and interpersonal requirements as the Financial Services role.
- Basic understanding of financial‑management and supply‑chain processes.

- Include a CV (maximum three pages) and at least two contactable references (managers, peers or subordinates).
- Provide certified copies of your qualification certificates, ID document and driver’s licence. All certified documents must be dated within the last six months.
