Barloworld Equipment is looking for three motivated and technically curious people to join their Apprentice (Heavy Earthmoving Mechanic) Programme in 2025. The job will be based in Boksburg, Gauteng, South Africa and is a full‑time role. If you want to start a career fixing and maintaining big machines that dig, lift, and move earth, this could be the right fit for you.
What the Apprenticeship Looks Like
The apprenticeship gives you a clear path to become a skilled heavy‑equipment mechanic. It mixes classroom lessons with real work on the job. You’ll learn the basics of mechanical systems, how to spot problems, and how to repair them. The programme is designed to build a solid foundation so that when the training is over you are ready for a professional job in the heavy machinery industry.
What You’ll Do
- Finish all the classroom and hands‑on training, and pass the required skill checks.
- Use what you learn in everyday work – fixing machines, checking for issues, and helping keep them running smoothly.
- Keep a clear log of what you do each day, so you can show your progress and learn from each task.
- Always work safely, following the company’s rules and the laws that protect workers.
- Meet the goals set for you, such as fixing a certain number of problems or keeping costs low.
- Write reports and fill in forms that show what you finished and how it was done.
- Help senior machinists with their projects and learn basic machine work like turning, milling, drilling, and tapping.
- Follow the General Machinery Regulations Act and other safety standards at all times.
What You Need to Apply
Barloworld wants people with a solid background in maths and science. Here are the main options:
- Finished high school (Grade 12 or Matric) with N3 Maths and Physical Science, or a Foundational Learning Certificate (FLT).
- Or an N2 or higher pass that included Maths, Science, Mechanical Trade Theory, and Technical Drawings.
- Or an NCV Level 4 that covered Maths, Physical Science, Industrial Science, Mechanical Trade Theory, Technical Drawings, and/or Electrical Trade Theory.
In addition, you must have a valid Code B driver’s licence before you take the trade test. Good thinking skills, strong maths ability, and a good sense of visual space help a lot. You should also be able to explain things clearly, both in speech and in writing.
Why This Apprenticeship is Worth Your Time
- You’ll receive a training program that is recognised worldwide.
- You’ll work with seasoned professionals who will guide you every step of the way.
- Hands‑on experience on modern heavy‑equipment machinery will build your confidence and skills.
- Working with a leading company in Africa gives you a solid start to a career in engineering, technical, or mechanical roles.
How to Send in Your Application
If you want to join the program, go to the Barloworld Equipment Careers Portal and submit an online application.
Make sure your application is full. Include a detailed CV, certified copies of your school certificates, and a copy of your ID.
