Alfred Nzo District Municipality Scholarship 2026 – Quick Guide for Students
The Alfred Nzo District Municipality is calling on South African high‑school graduates and university students to apply for its 2026 External Bursary Programme. If you’re between 16 and 35 years old, live in the district, and want to study one of several “scarce and critical” subjects, this scholarship could cover your tuition and living costs. Don’t miss the deadline – all applications must arrive on or before 6 February 2026.
What Is the Bursary?
A bursary is a form of financial help that comes with a promise. If you win it, you’ll study at a recognised South African university or college in a field that the municipality sees as essential for community growth. After finishing your course, you’ll sign a contract that shows you’ll return to work in your chosen field and help the district in some way.
Because the money is limited, the municipality will decide how many bursaries it can award each year. The more people who meet the conditions and submit strong applications, the better your chances.
Which Subjects Are Covered?
The list below shows the degrees and diplomas that qualify. Most of them deal with water, infrastructure, environment and technology – areas that the district needs more experts in.
- BSc Environmental and Water Science
- BSc Community Water Services and Sanitation
- BSc Water Resource Management
- National Diploma in Water and Science Technology
- National Diploma in Marine Engineering
- National Diploma in Civil Engineering
- National Diploma or Degree in Town/Urban and Regional Planning
- National Diploma or Degree in Disaster Management
- National Diploma or Degree in Graphic Art / Design
- National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- National Diploma or Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechatronics)
If your chosen course is on this list, you’re eligible for the bursary.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered, you must:
- Live in the Alfred Nzo District. Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor is required.
- Be between 16 and 35 years old.
- Show financial need and good grades. Provide your Grade 12 certificate (or latest results if you’re still in Grade 12), and your parents’ or guardians’ proof of income, or a death certificate or affidavit if that is applicable.
- Preferably come from a disadvantaged background. The municipality will look at your background to give extra weight to those who have faced economic or social hurdles.
- Intend to study one of the listed fields at a recognized tertiary institution in South Africa.
Missing any of these points means your application will be dropped before it’s even reviewed.
What Do You Need to Submit?
Pack a complete set of documents with your application form:
- A motivation letter that explains why you want to study this subject and how it will help the community.
- Your Grade 12 certificate or latest exam results (for students still in Grade 12).
- A letter of acceptance or proof of enrolment from a recognised university or college.
- A certified copy of your South African ID.
- Proof of residence from a Ward Councillor.
- Proof of income from your parents or an affidavit if that’s more appropriate.
All documents must be official and signed where needed. The municipality will reject incomplete applications.

Why This Matters
The Alfred Nzo District is building a future that depends on skilled people who know how to manage water, protect the environment and keep the community safe and connected. By offering this bursary, the municipality hopes to bring back talented students who will use their knowledge to improve lives locally. If you’re ready to learn in one of the subjects above, prove you need the support, and are ready to commit to the district’s needs after graduation, this scholarship could be the key to your university journey.
Make sure you apply early, double‑check that every paper is ready, and get your hand‑delivered application in before 6 February 2026. Good luck!
