African Union Internship 2026 – Apply by 31 Dec 2026, Addis Ababa

Now is a good time to think about gaining real‑world experience on a continent‑wide platform. The African Union Internship Program 2026 is open for students and fresh graduates from AU member states, and the deadline is fast approaching.

What the internship is

The African Union Commission will host interns at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The placement lasts for three months and can be extended once for another three months. It is a full‑time role that gives you a view of African policy‑making, development projects and diplomatic work.

Who can apply

You must be a citizen of an AU member country. You can apply if you are:

  • In the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or
  • Already holding a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in a relevant field.

Additional conditions are:

  • Maximum age of 32 at the time of selection.
  • No serious criminal convictions.
  • Fluent in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French or Portuguese).
  • Full‑time students may apply while still studying.

The internship gives you practical exposure to a wide range of AU departments. You can be placed in areas such as:

During the three months you will develop:

  • Research and policy analysis skills.
  • Written and verbal communication in a multicultural setting.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet proficiency.
  • Teamwork, leadership and problem‑solving abilities.

Knowing an extra AU language such as Kiswahili or Spanish is a plus.

  1. Gather the required documents: motivation letter, valid passport or ID, certified copies of your certificates, current CV, a recommendation letter from your school and the AU CV template.
  2. Visit the official application page and create an account.
  3. Fill in the online form and upload all documents, including the completed AU CV template.
