Plant Production Learnership – A New Path for Young People in Mogale City
The Mogale City Local Municipality in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, is opening 25 spots in a 12‑month Plant Production Learnership for young, unemployed residents aged 18 to 35. This program gives you a chance to learn real skills in farming, tourism, the environment, and gardening. You’ll get paid R2 000 each month, and by the end of the year you’ll hold a recognised qualification that can help you find a job or start your own small business.
Why This Learnership Is Worth Considering
- Hands‑on training – You’ll work on a farm and in a nursery, learning how to grow plants, take care of soil, and manage a garden that can become a business.
- Theoretical lessons – In addition to doing work, you’ll study the science behind growing plants and protecting the environment.
- Future opportunities – When the learnership finishes, you’ll have a certificate that employers look for when hiring people in agriculture and related fields.
- Community growth – The municipality wants more people to work locally and help build a stronger economy in Mogale City.
Who Can Apply?
- Must be a South African citizen with a Grade 12 certificate or a similar qualification that includes mathematics (Pure Maths or Maths Literacy).
- Unemployed and between 18 and 35 years old.
- Live inside the Mogale City Local Municipality – you’ll need proof from your ward councillor.
- No criminal record – a clean background check is required.
- Not already in another SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) program or receiving NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) funding.
- Applicants who already hold a National Certificate Level 6 or higher (N6) should not apply for this level 3 learnership.
Special attention is given to people who are previously disadvantaged or have a disability. Women and disabled applicants are strongly encouraged to join.
What You Will Receive
- A R2 000 per month stipend paid by the Training Services Provider.
- A 12‑month learning period that is non‑renewable. Once the program ends, you will hold a formal qualification.
