Job Overview – Bricklaying Apprenticeship at Motheo Academy
If you’re a South African teen who loves building and wants a clear career path, Motheo Academy is looking for you. From 2025 to 2028, they will run a three‑year full‑time bricklaying apprenticeship that ends with a nationally recognised Red Seal certificate. You’ll learn all the skills a construction site needs, earn a monthly stipend, and gain hands‑on experience that can turn your hobby into a job.
What the Apprenticeship Looks Like
The program mixes classroom lessons with real‑world training on construction sites. You’ll study the science of bricks, safety rules, and building plans, while also practicing laying bricks under the guidance of experienced mentors. After three years, you’ll receive a Red Seal qualification that lets you work anywhere in South Africa’s construction and built‑environment industry.
- Duration: 3 years, full time
- Certification: Occupational Certificate in Bricklaying (Red Seal)
- Location: Motheo Academy, Gauteng Province
- Stipend: A monthly allowance is paid during training
Who Can Apply?
You must meet a few clear requirements to be considered:
- Hold a Grade 12 certificate that includes Mathematics and English, signed by a certified authority and issued within the last three months.
- Have a certified N2 qualification in bricklaying, also issued within the last three months.
- Submit a certified copy of your ID that is no older than three months.
