What the opportunity is

Nkangala District Municipality is offering bursaries for the 2027 academic year. The funding is for full‑time undergraduate study at a recognised public university, university of technology or TVET college in South Africa. It does not cover existing student debt.

Who can apply (eligibility)

You must be a South African citizen aged between 17 and 35 and live in the Nkangala District Municipality. This includes the local municipalities of Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani or Victor Khanye.

Applicants must come from a historically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need (household income ≤ R180 000 per year).

Academic criteria:

  • Currently in Matric or already matriculated.
  • Enrolled or intending to enrol full‑time in one of the approved fields (see list below).
  • University students need at least a 60 % average for 2026; TVET students need at least 50 % average for 2026.
