What the opportunity is

Wits University offers undergraduate programmes that are recognised worldwide. To be considered, you must complete an online application and upload the right supporting documents through the Wits Student Self‑Service Portal.

Who can apply

You can apply if you fall into one of these groups:

Current Grade 12 learners (not yet matriculated)

  • Final Grade 11 report – signed and stamped by the principal
  • Copy of your South African ID
  • Latest Grade 12 results, if you have them or if the programme asks for them
  • Any extra papers the specific programme requires

Applicants who have already matriculated

  • Certified copy of your South African ID
  • National Senior Certificate (matric certificate)
  • Individual certificates for each matric attempt, where relevant
  • Upgrade results, if you have them
  • Re‑mark results, if applicable

International applicants

  • Certified copy of your passport
  • Certified copy of a recent school report
  • All previous academic results
  • Final school‑leaving results, if available
  • Any extra documents the university asks for
  • SAQA‑related papers for certain qualifications

Transfer students

  • Certified copy of South African ID or passport
  • Matric certificate
  • Full academic transcript from the previous institution
  • Certificate of conduct, if requested
  • Course outlines or module descriptions, when asked by the faculty
  • Proof of previous registration, where needed

How to apply

  1. Visit the Wits Student Self‑Service Portal and log in with your person or student number.
  2. Open the Student Centre or Documents and Communications tab.
  3. Click Manage Documents.
  4. Choose the correct document type for each file you are uploading.
  5. Select the file from your computer and upload it.
  6. Check that every document shows up as “submitted” before you leave the page.
  7. Pay the R100 application fee (use your person/student number as the reference) and keep the receipt in case it is requested.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Upload clear, readable files – no blurry photos or cut‑off screenshots.
  • Make sure you use the right document category for each file.
  • For Grade 11 reports, double‑check that they are signed and stamped.
  • Include proof of payment if the programme asks for it.
  • Do not wait until the closing date – upload everything as soon as you can.
  • Never use someone else’s ID or give wrong personal details.
