What is the SANBI Greening Programme 2026?

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is offering temporary work under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). It provides daily‑paid positions at a number of National Botanical Gardens across the country. The work focuses on garden maintenance, invasive‑species removal, biodiversity conservation and community upliftment.

Who can apply?

Both unskilled and skilled applicants are welcome. The basic eligibility criteria are:

  • You are a South African citizen.
  • You live in the municipality where the garden is located (proof of residence required).
  • You are physically fit for outdoor, manual work.
  • You can work both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are able to attend an interview if shortlisted.

Unskilled participants

  • Stipend: R150 per day
  • Contract: Until 31 March 2027

Skilled participants

  • Stipend: R200 per day
  • Contract: Until 31 March 2027
  • Relevant experience may include: chainsaw or brush‑cutter operation, herbicide application, painting, paving, bricklaying, or general construction and maintenance work.
