🎓 About CETA and the Bursary Programme
The Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) has been driving skills development in the construction sector since 2000. Accredited as an Education and Training Quality Assurance (ETQA) body, CETA offers bursaries to grow and empower the country’s workforce in the construction industry.
The bursary has been renamed in honour of Mr. Thapelo Madibeng, a dedicated CETA executive who passed away in August 2018. It now stands as a tribute to his lasting legacy in education and development.
📚 Fields of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies (including Master’s and PhD) in built environment-related fields, including (but not limited to):
- Architecture (National Diploma, BSc to PhD)
- Building Arts (BA)
- Building Construction or Equivalent (N4 to N6)
- Civil Engineering (BSc to PhD)
- Climate Change Science
- Construction BIM
- Construction Economics, Management & Studies
- Electrical Engineering (N4 to N6)
- Environmental Management
- Geomatics
- Property Development (BSc)
- Quantity Surveying
- Real Estate (National Diploma)
- Urban and Regional Planning
- Other construction-related qualifications
💰 What the Bursary Covers
The bursary includes full financial support for:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation
- Meals
- Transport (conditions apply)
- Research allowance for Master’s and PhD students
✅ Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Thapelo Madibeng Bursary, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently unemployed
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Be studying or intending to study a built environment qualification
- Be accepted or registered at a public university, TVET College, or University of Technology in SA
- Have achieved a minimum average of 50%
- Have a combined household income under R800 000 per year
