If you’re a recent matric graduate and feel the weight of higher‑education fees, the Sasria Bursary is a golden ticket. It gives you the chance to study at a recognised university or university of technology without paying full tuition – and it’s open right now.
What is the Sasria Bursary Programme?
Sasria SOC Limited is South Africa’s specialist insurer for high‑risk events that normal policies ignore. To give back, it runs a bursary scheme that supports bright students who would otherwise struggle to pay for university. The focus is on careers that strengthen the insurance and finance sectors.
Who can apply?
To qualify, you must meet all the following:
- South African citizen with a valid ID
- 16 to 20 years old
- Completed Grade 12 (Matric)
- Average of 70 % or higher in Matric
- Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) is compulsory
- Household income below R600 000 per year
- No direct relation to a current Sasria employee
Missing any of these means you’re not eligible. Many applicants worry about the math requirement, but the list is clear – if you meet it, you’re good to go.
What do you get?
The bursary can cover full tuition, or just tuition or accommodation if you need a partial amount. In return, you’ll study a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields:
- Insurance or Risk Management
- Mathematics or Statistics
- Finance
- Accounting or Economics
- Computer Science or Information Technology
These courses are offered at any recognized South African university or university of technology across all nine provinces.
