Job Opportunity: Graduate Internship with the Department of Electricity and Energy
The Department of Electricity and Energy is looking for South African graduates to join its Graduate Internship Programme for the 2026/2027 – 2027/2028 financial years. The internship will be based in Pretoria, South Africa, and the deadline to apply is 6 February 2026. If you are a recent graduate who is still looking for a job, this could be a great way to learn about the public service and the energy sector.

What the Internship is About

The program is designed to give you real workplace experience. You will work across many different areas inside the Department, from office administration to engineering, finance and even graphic design. The goal is to give unemployed graduates a chance to learn new skills and to help the Department meet its responsibilities in the electricity and energy field. People with disabilities are especially welcome to apply.

Important Note on Living and Travel

Interns will need to arrange their own housing and transportation while they are on the program. There is no accommodation or travel support from the Department.

Minimum Requirements & Fields of Study

You must hold at least one of the following qualifications:

  • BSc in Physics
  • Degree in Chemistry
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Nuclear Engineering
  • National Diploma in Public Administration / Public Management
  • National Diploma / Degree / BCom in Business Management
  • Degree in Law / LLB
  • National Diploma or Degree in Internal Audit
  • National Diploma in Administration
  • National Diploma or Degree in Finance
  • National Diploma or Degree in Management Accounting
  • National Diploma or Degree in Graphic Design / Integrated Communication Design
  • National Diploma / BCom / BTech in Accounting or Financial Management
  • Degree in Social Services
  • Degree in Psychology or Social Work
  • Degree in Supply Chain Management
  • Degree in Office Administration

Applicants who have already taken part in a government internship will not be considered.

How to Apply

Use the 2021 version of the Z83 form and attach a single, detailed CV. Only the CV should be included, no extra documents.

Key Instructions

  • Fill out Sections A, B, C and D completely.
  • For Sections E, F and G you can write “refer to CV”, except for the re‑appointment question in Section F.
  • Initial and sign each page of the declaration.
  • Send your application as one PDF that contains the completed Z83 form and your CV.
  • Do not use JPEG or other picture files.
  • In the email subject, write the job title and reference number exactly.
  • Each internship post needs a separate application.
  • Late or incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Selection and What Happens Next
