What’s the job? Life Healthcare is looking for a fresh graduate to join its Social Work team as a Graduate Intern Social Worker at the Life Nkanyisa Waverley Care Centre in Germiston. The role is a paid internship that lets you see how social work fits into a hospital setting, especially in the area of mental health care. You will learn how to help people who have long‑term psychiatric conditions and guide them back to a healthier, more independent life.

What you’ll do every day
- Help design and keep the centre’s programs running.
- Join meetings to plan and review patient care, and help tweak those plans as needed.
- Guide patients through the steps to enter and leave the centre.
- Carry out assessments and write care plans, including Individual Development Plans, in partnership with the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Make sure all work follows the Department of Social Development’s disability policy and other rules about mental health.
- Stay in touch with outside agencies and referral partners.
- Take part in marketing, advocacy and community education projects.
- Keep learning by attending training and professional growth opportunities.
- Contribute to regular team meetings.
What you need to qualify
We’re looking for people who have:
- Completed Grade 12.
- Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
- Held a current registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions (SACSSP).
- Got a valid driver’s licence.
- Know the main laws and policies that cover mental health care (this is a plus).
