Job Opportunity: Environmental Health & Services Internship
The Gert Sibande District Municipality is looking for recent graduates who have finished a National Diploma or B-Tech in Environmental Health to join a 12‑month internship program. The internship will give you hands‑on experience in keeping the community safe, while you learn from a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner. The internship starts in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, and you will be paid while you work.
What the internship involves
1. Water checks and monitoring
You will help test local water to make sure it is safe for drinking. You’ll also keep an eye on the environment to spot any problems that could harm people’s health.
2. Waste management
You’ll look at how waste is collected and disposed of. Your job is to spot unsafe practices and show people how to handle waste properly.
3. Nuisance control
If someone complains about loud dogs, stray cattle, or pest problems, you will investigate. You’ll help with pest control and make sure local rules about health and safety are followed.
4. Building inspections
You will visit public buildings and other facilities to check that they meet health and safety standards. When you see a risk, you’ll suggest simple fixes.
5. Health promotion
You will support efforts to keep people clean and healthy. This can include small talks in the community about hygiene and preventing disease.
6. Chemical safety
You will help with programs that keep chemicals stored safely. This means checking that chemicals are labeled, stored, and disposed of correctly. If a site is not following the rules, you will issue a notice and prepare reports for the municipality.
