What the Apprenticeship Covers
The training is built around the 97582 – Occupational Certificate: Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic Apprenticeship) program. After you finish, you’ll be able to:
- Do routine maintenance to keep machines in good shape.
- Take engines apart, figure out what’s wrong, and put them back together.
- Spot problems in diesel engines and powertrain systems and fix them.
- Work comfortably with hydraulic lifts and electrical controls.
Who Can Apply?

Academic Background

- Level 4 NCV Certificate in Engineering and related Design.
- Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, and English.
Prior Learning
- Four or more years of work as an Artisan Aid in a related field.

- Go through every phase of the MERSETA‑accredited apprenticeship program.
