Gold Fields South Deep Cadet Programme 2026 – Graduate Mining Role

Job Opportunity: South Deep Cadet Programme 2026 – Gold Fields

If you’re a South African teen or young adult who is currently looking for work, Gold Fields is opening a new training program in Gauteng that could give you a solid start in the mining industry. The South Deep Cadet Programme is a 12‑month apprenticeship located at the South Deep Mine in Westonaria, where you’ll learn real skills and get a taste of life underground and on the surface. The application deadline is 19 November 2025, so don’t wait to sign up.

What is the South Deep Cadet Programme?

This training course is part of Gold Fields’ effort to help unemployed youth find jobs. It is also tied to the National Youth Employment Service, so you’ll get extra support if you come from one of the host communities around the mine. You’ll get a hands‑on education in a real mine, learning about safety, tools, and teamwork. Even if you haven’t worked before, the program is ready to bring you up to speed.

During the year you will:

  • See what everyday work looks like in a mining setting
  • Take practical classes and learn how to stay safe on the job
  • Explore different departments, both underground and on the surface
  • Build a résumé that will help you find other jobs, not just in mining

Who Can Apply?

Gold Fields wants to support historically disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) aged 18 to 34. You also need to be from one of the listed host communities. These communities include:

  • Bekkersdal
  • Zuurberkom
  • Thusanang
  • Hillshaven
  • Westonaria
  • Poortjie
  • Simunye
  • Kalbasfontein
  • Jachtfontein
  • Westonaria Borwa

To qualify, you must either live in one of these places or finish Grade 12 in a school that is part of a host community.

Minimum Requirements

  • You must be fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • You must not have any formal work experience – that’s exactly why this program is for you.
  • You should be ready to work underground or on the surface, and be flexible with shifts and overtime.
  • You will need to pass all pre‑employment checks: tests, qualifications, a security clearance, and a fitness certificate from Gold Fields Occupational Health.

Why Join?

This 12‑month training is a great way to learn from people who already do mining jobs. You will:

  • Work alongside experienced professionals.
  • Practice in a top‑quality mining environment.
  • Build a foundation that can open doors to future jobs in the industry or elsewhere.
  • Learn important technical skills, how to behave in a team, and how to keep yourself safe.

If you’re ready to start a career and want a place that will train you from scratch, this is a solid choice.
