About the Job

The Chief Professional Nurse runs the daily health services at Transnet’s clinics. You will:

  • Give first‑line care that helps people stay healthy or get better when they’re sick.
  • Plan and lead community health projects like school health checks and on‑train services for patients on the Phelophepa Health Care Train.
  • Keep the clinic safe, clean and fully equipped with the right medical tools.
  • Make sure every patient record is accurate and that the clinic follows legal and ethical rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide complete primary health care: prevention, treatment, and recovery of illnesses.
  • Teach and mentor nursing students so they grow into professional nurses.
  • Use sound clinical judgment to deliver care that meets high standards.
  • Manage medical supplies and keep the clinic’s equipment in top shape.
  • Keep clear paperwork, generate reports and help plan the clinic’s budget.
  • Coordinate health education pop‑ups in schools—covering topics like healthy weight, diabetes screening, and hearing tests.
  • Run simple medical exams for students and refer them to specialists when needed.
  • Offer basic treatment to students and coordinate follow‑up care with school staff.
  • Deliver special health services for older adults travelling on the Phelophepa Train.
  • Stick to Transnet and Department of Health rules, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Document workplace incidents within 24 hours as required.
  • Support the learning and safety of the whole nursing team.

What You Need to Apply

  • At least four years of hands‑on nursing experience.
  • A Diploma or Degree in General Nursing – this can include Community Health, Psychiatry, or Midwifery.
  • A Diploma in Primary Health Care Nursing (Assessment, Diagnosis, Treatment & Care).
  • Active registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse, Midwife, Community Health Nurse, or PHC Nurse.
  • If you’re also registered in Psychiatric Nursing, that’s a strong plus.
  • Having a background in Nursing Administration or Nurse Education is helpful.
