What’s the SG Coal Apprenticeship Programme?
SG Coal is one of South Africa’s biggest companies that moves coal and other goods. They run a three‑year Apprenticeship Programme that teaches you real skills you need in the heavy‑vehicle and mining world. When you finish, you earn a Red Seal certificate, which is a national badge showing you can work as a skilled mechanic or electrician.
Why do we need these apprenticeships?
Many young people in South Africa are looking for work but don’t have the hands‑on experience that employers need. SG Coal wants to give those who are eager, hardworking and love fixing things a chance to start a solid technical career.
What trades can you learn?

Both trades combine classroom lessons with real‑world work. After three years you’ll have a Red Seal certification in your chosen field.
Who Can Sign Up?
- Citizens of South Africa only.
- Age 18–35 (not older than 35).
- Grade 9 pass with at least 50 % in Maths and Science, or an NQF Level 1 qualification with the same marks.
- Unemployed and ready to work full time for the whole apprenticeship.
- Ready for both theory classes and hands‑on training.
- People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
