2. About the Learner Fire Fighter Programme
Our Fire Fighter Learnership Programme 2025/2027 gives 8 young people a chance to train as real firefighters in the Hessequa Region, Western Cape. The programme is a mix of classroom lessons, hands‑on drills, and real emergency practice. You’ll learn how to:
- Drive and drive carefully with a Code B licence.
- Work safely with fire tools and hazardous–material gear.
- Stay calm and helpful when people are scared.
By the end, you’ll be ready for a job in any fire department or emergency team.
3. Minimum Entry Requirements
If you want to join, you must have:
- A National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
- Valid Fire Fighter 1 and Hazmat Awareness certificates (or plans to get them before the programme starts).
- A clear medical test showing you’re fit for physical work.
- No criminal record.
- A Code B driver’s licence (having a Code C/EC and a professional driving licence will give you an extra edge).
- Willingness to follow all written rules of the programme.
4. What You’ll Do
During the programme you’ll:
- Respond to fire alarms and rescue teams.
- Put out fires and save people.
- Give basic first‑aid to injured people.
- Take part in drills, fire‑simulation exercises, and fitness training.
- Keep fire engines and equipment in good shape.
