The training is split into two parts: you’ll attend theory classes at a recognised training centre and then spend time on the plant learning how to set up, maintain and repair machinery that produces granular, liquid and special‑purpose fertilizers. You need at least one of these qualifications:
Grade 12 with studies in:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- English Language
- Mechanical Fitter Trade Theory
N3 Certificate with subjects:
- N3 Mathematics
- N3 Engineering Science
- N3 Engineering Drawing
- N3 Mechanical Fitter Trade Theory
Engineering National Certificate (Vocational) – NCV Level 4 in Mechanical Trade Theory
If you’re still in school, just show you’re studying one of these subjects. No previous job experience is required.
What you’ll be doing
- Attend theory lessons from an accredited provider.
- Get hands‑on plant training while on site.
- Finish the entire curriculum for the Mechanical Fitter trade.
- Follow the training timetable set by CHIETA.
