What You’ll Do
- Collect blood and other samples safely and accurately, keeping patients comfortable.
- Run point‑of‑care tests right on the spot, like quick blood sugar checks and centrifugation.
- Keep good records for each patient and test.
- Handle quality checks – run external quality samples, do internal checks, and flag any problems.
- Teach other nurses and staff about proper sample handling and safety.
- Report equipment problems to suppliers and track repairs.
- Review and improve procedures so every patient gets the best care.
- Help with basic nursing duties when needed – first aid, immunisation help, glucose tolerance tests.
- Watch inventory to make sure supplies never run out.
- Follow safety rules and keep the lab clean and organised.
Minimum Requirements
- Finished high school (NQF 4).
- Registered with the HPCSA as a Phlebotomy Technician.
- 1 to 3 years of real‑world experience.
- Understand how to keep samples safe and accurate.
- Know the basics of lab tests and disease conditions.
- Able to use a computer for data entry and analysis.
- Good at managing time and staying organized.
- Friendly, good at talking to patients and writing reports.
- Keeps information private and stays safe in a busy lab environment.
