Midvaal Local Municipality 2026 Financial Management Internship

Midvaal Local Municipality is looking for a Financial Management Intern (Ref: MN 4071/26) to join its team in Meyerton, Gauteng. The position is a two‑year training job that pays about R8 333 per month, or roughly R100 000 a year, and is open to people who have finished a university or college degree and are not working right now. If you want to learn how a city manages its money and help with bills, taxes, and budgets, this internship could be a great first step into a career in public finance.

What the internship involves

During the two years you will get a hands‑on look at the day‑to‑day work of a local government finance department. Your duties will include:

  • Helping with the billing process for rates and service charges so residents know how much they owe.
  • Answering questions and handling complaints in the income section.
  • Running cash‑handling tasks when needed.
  • Filling out National Treasury reporting forms, which let the government see how money is being spent.
  • Re‑checking accounts to make sure numbers line up.
  • Performing general office tasks, like filing and data entry.
  • Supporting the buying and supply chain team on purchases.
  • Assisting the asset management team that keeps track of the municipality’s equipment and properties.

The program is designed so you learn the skills you need to do a job in municipal finance later. However, finishing the internship does not automatically mean you will get a permanent job at Midvaal Local Municipality.

Who can apply

  • You must have finished Grade 12.
  • You need a three‑year Bachelor’s or National Diploma (Level 6) in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management, Auditing, or a similar field.
  • You must be able to use a computer and work with spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel.
  • You need to be unemployed and live within the Midvaal Local Municipality area.

Candidates who meet the equal‑opportunity targets for race, gender, and disability will get priority. People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pay and benefits

The monthly salary is R8 333.34, all‑in‑all. No extra benefits or allowances are paid.

  • No CV means no review.
  • Shortlisted people will go through qualification checks, a criminal record check, and a security vetting process.
  • The council keeps the right to not hire anyone after the selection.

Why this internship matters

If you’re a recent graduate who still needs a job, this internship can help you build a career in public sector finance. You will get real experience with municipal budgeting, national reporting systems, and supply chain tasks. You’ll also learn about billing, asset management, and how a city keeps track of its money. The two‑year training is a solid foundation for future roles in finance within a local government.

Take advantage of this opportunity before the deadline on 03 March 2026 at 12:00. If you hear back after three months and no one has contacted you, you can assume your application was not successful.

Good luck, and don’t miss this chance to start a career in municipal finance with Midvaal Local Municipality!
